For 2014, we are soliciting a donation of $20.00 per vehicle (which includes a 2015 dash plaque for pre-registered participants). This donation is necessary to help cover the expenses of putting on this event and getting the publicity needed out on this great highway. Because we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your $20.00 donation is tax-deductible and helps cover our costs and to reach accomplish our common goal of putting Historic Highway 6 back on the map.
Thursday October 9th
5:30pm ó Cruise the Ones event.
Meet at Florian Keen Parking Lot 209 S Gaines St. Davenport. ìCruising the Onesî (one way streets in downtown). Relive the classic tradition of cruising the one-way loop in downtown Davenport. The downtown restaurants will be open and participating in special deals just for us. Cruising the Ones is open to anyone with a classic car at no charge. Spectators are also welcome – bring your lawn chair and a camera!
7:30 ó Open House at Dahl Fordís Old Car Home The evening will finish up with a special treat – Dahl Fordís Old Car Home Museum, 5215 Grand Ave Davenport. This is an amazing collection of classic cars and memorabilia you wonít want to miss.
Friday Oct 10th
9:30am ó Official start of River to River Retro Road Trip
Assemble at the Florian Keen Parking Lot by 9:00AM. Roll out with a police escort at 9:30AM.
11:00am-1:00pm ó Coralville host lunch stop at Iowa River Power Restaurant This lunch stop must be prepaid in order to accommodate our Cruise and prepayment is non-refundable. Prepaid lunch vouchers will only be redeemable on Friday 10/10/14 from 11:00am to 1:00pm (ìrain checksî will not be offered if you do not show up). We are required to guarantee the number of people in advance that will be dining. Lunch will be served buffet style and is $15.00 per person, payable with your pre-registration. This all-inclusive price includes entrÈe and side, salad, desert, beverage (coffee, tea, soda, or lemonade) and tax. A lunch voucher for each prepaid lunch will be in your registration packet; you present your voucher upon entering the restaurant, then proceed to the special buffet provided exclusively for our pre-registered cruise participants. IRP is a wonderful historic power plant that has been converted in to a fine dining restaurant. It sets on the bank of the Iowa River, right on Historic Route 6. It is very tastefully decorated in the old power plant theme. We are very excited to have IRP and this historic site working with us for this very unique experience. Please be aware that the deadline for the pre-paid lunch voucher is September 15th, and is non-refundable. 11:00am to 1:00pm ó Antique Car Museum of Iowa, 860 Quarry Rd. in Coralville Founded in 2006, the Antique Car Museum of Iowa prides itself in educating visitors on the history of transportation. The 28,000 square foot showroom features 90+ cars ranging from year 1899 to the mid 1970ís, along with early 20th century Skelly gas station, and an exhibit featuring the Abernathy Boys. Many of the antique cars are in their original clothes and are untouched by modern day techniques-itís rare pleasure to view these historic cars in their genuine state! Regular admission is $5.00 to this museum, but River to River Road Trip participants qualify for a reduced rate of $4.00 ñ be sure to show your name tag to get this special rate. 1:30pm ó Depart Coralville Regroup between 1:00pm and 1:30pm at the Iowa River Landing (maps and parking instructions to be provided on the website and included in the participant packet). Drive out to start at 1:30pm.
Victor is our designated beverage stop in the afternoon from 3:00pm to 4:15pm. Victor is a quaint little town and will be welcoming us with open arms. This gives us a chance to gather back up for the final leg of Friday, as we go thru Brooklyn and on to Grinnell.
The Friday overnight stop is in Grinnell. Grinnell, also known as ìJewel of the Prairieî, has been named one of the Top Ten Coolest Small Towns in America. Grinnell is planning a great time for us around their Central Park for a Car Show from 5:00pm – 7:00 pm and then you will find a large amount of restaurants to dine on your own for the evening meal within walking distance of Central Park. We will cap off the evening with a Cruise reception at the Spaulding Transportation Museum from 8:30pm to 10:00pm. Special things to see include the National Historic Landmark Sullivan ìJewelboxî Bank building across the street from the NW corner of Central Park, and Candyland Station, a restored 1940ís era Mobil Service station turned ice cream soda fountain. Saturday, Oct 11th
8:00am ó Depart Grinnell Saturday leave Grinnell from Central Park 8:00 am 9:30am ó Arriving at Karl Performance in Des Moines and take a tour of their facility. Check out their showroom engine shop, dyno tuning, body shop where the retro Corvettes are built etc. 11:00am ó Depart Karl Performance Travel to White Pol Road and lunch TBA. 2:00pm ó Gathering point at Casey 4:00pm ó Leave for Council Bluffs Travel to Council Bluffs for the Historic Route 6 Festival and car show. 5:30pm ó The Block Party will be held in the beautiful Historic 100 block of Broadway. This is a revitalized area from the 1850ís. The period significance is 1900 ñ 1949 with the architecture style of Late Victorian and Mission/Spanish. Bluffs Downtown is putting on a car show, and will have a DJ to entertain you while you eat at some of Council Bluffs’ coolest restaurants.
Sunday Oct 12th
Start TBA Travel East with stops at Freedom Rock and Winterset where the Covered Bridge Festival and Madison County Car Show will be going on. If you would like to participate in the Madison County Car Show you will need to register with them, separately from the Cruise.
